FAQs

  • You can book any of our rides through Eventbrite, HERE.

  • The simple answer is that we ride stationary bikes in a dark room, to some music.

We use the beat as our guide, but we aren’t prescriptive about it. That means, if a beat doesn’t feel good for your body, we encourage you to find a different one (or you can forget the beat completely)!

We will use ‘resistance’ on our bikes which is increased and decreased by a dial found in between our legs. Turning the dial to the left ‘lightens’ the resistance (removes it) and turning it to the right makes the resistance ‘heavier’ (adds it on). The resistance recreates the feeling of riding up and down hills/on flat roads, allowing us to move safely, and with support at different speeds throughout the ride. The resistance is what keeps us connected to the bike, and we’ll guide you during the class about when you might want to try adding or removing resistance to help you match the beat of the song in your body.

We will offer choreography - sequenced movements - performed (mostly!) from a standing position on the bike. Everything we do is optional and we will always encourage you to listen to your body and take it at your own pace.

  • We rent out studio space at Gymbox, where we operate our rides as private hires, separate to the gym’s own timetable.

Gymbox have several locations across London. We currently run rides at the Gymbox Farringdon, Elephant & Castle and Victoria locations.

Be sure to check the Eventbrite listing for the specific ride you have booked, to confirm which Gymbox location to go to.

  • It is best to avoid loose fitting or baggy trousers as these could get caught in the bike. We suggest wearing something you’re comfortable sweating in and that will keep you cool whilst riding.

  • Comfortable and supportive trainers are perfect. Cleats (cycling shoes) are NOT provided, but, if you have your own, the Gymbox bikes are compatible with SPD cleats. If you do have your own cleats, we’d recommend bringing trainers too, just in case there are any issues getting clipped in.

  • We recommend arriving 15 minutes before the start time of your ride, especially if it’s your first time. Gymbox locations are pretty big (some are gigantic!) and it can take a bit of time to sign in, get oriented, use the facilities, and find your way to the studio.

  • When you arrive, please let the fab Gymbox reception team know you're here for the private hire with Ash Rides London. They’ll sign you in, before directing you to the ride studio.

Once you’ve been buzzed through the entry gate by the Gymbox team, one of us (Ash or Lou) will be waiting at the tables at the bottom of the stairs, to greet you, and make sure you find your way to the studio!

  • The ride is usually around 48-52 minutes, but we’ll be together in the studio for one hour. Being together slightly longer gives us time to make sure everyone is set up nice and comfy at the start, and also allows for a lovely cool down and stretch at the end.

  • Gymbox changing rooms have lockers that you can use, but you will need to bring your own padlock (or you can buy one at the Gymbox reception).

There is also space for bags/belongings in the ride studio, and you are more than welcome to bring these in with you if you’d prefer.

  • We highly recommend you have water with you during the ride. There are water fountains available throughout Gymbox for you to refill as needed, and if you need, you can buy water at reception.

  • Yes! Towels are provided by the reception team on arrival at Gymbox. They are shower towel size, but you’ll be able to take more than one if you’d like to. If you'd prefer a larger towel size, you are welcome to bring your own.

We suggest taking an additional towel into the studio to use as a sweat towel, so you can mop your handlebars/bike down during the ride! We are also using sweat towels to cover the monitors the Gymbox bikes come fitted with.

  • Yes! After the class, we will have use of all showers and changing facilities (with no time limit), including the saunas (found in the changing rooms).

Shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, and hair dryers are all provided by Gymbox in the changing rooms.

  • No, use of the wider gym facilities is not included in our private hire with Gymbox. This means we can’t use the gym space or any of the other facilities - just the ride studio and changing facilities!

  • The studio will be dark for class and there are flashing lights with various settings that we will use at different times during the ride.

If you have photosensitive epilepsy we do not recommend joining the ride. If you have any other type of light sensitivity please let us know before we start the ride, or email us at ashrideslondon@gmail.com

  • We will be riding to very loud music. If you've any noise sensitivity at all, it’s probably a good idea to bring earplugs. Many folks like to wear Loops Earplugs in class!

  • We ask all riders to complete our ‘physical activity readiness’ questionnaire AND the Gymbox health statement form, before their first ride.

These forms are an opportunity for you to let us know if you have any health concerns, which may impact your ability to safely participate in a ride. If there is anything mentioned on the forms that we’d like to check in with you about, we’ll drop you an email before your ride. If you have a health condition that could affect your ability to ride safely, we recommend that you check in with your doctor before riding.

There will also be time at the start of the ride to discuss any injuries. All choreography is optional and it is 100% possible to have a great ride without ever coming out of the saddle. We offer options and modifications, and most importantly, encourage you to listen to your own body and go at your own pace.

  • No - once you’ve filled the ‘physical activity readiness’ questionnaire out for your first ride, you just have to tick a box on the form to let us know you’ve already completed it and that nothing has changed. Of course, if anything has changed please complete the form again (thank you)!

Gymbox requires anyone new to their studios, including guests, to register their details via their health statement form. We’ll send a link to this every time you book a ride. Gymbox ask that guests complete it before their first visit, and then once every 3 months.

  • If you're nervous or scared, that's totally ok, just let us know at the start, and we'll do everything we can to support you. Our classes are a space free of judgement/comparison/competition. Everyone is welcomed with open sweaty arms, compassionate minds, and gloriously loving hearts.

  • We’re a small, independent (two person) business, so we’re not in a position to offer refunds at the moment. Sorry about that!

If you can no longer attend your ride, please email us at ashrideslondon@gmail.com to let us know. As long as you give us at least 48 hours notice, we will do our very best to transfer you on to another ride (so do let us know in your email if there is a ride you’ve got your eye on).

Without 48 hours notice, we may not be able to accommodate a transfer to another ride. But, we’d still appreciate it if you could let us know you’re no longer able to attend, so that we know who to expect at the ride.

If you can no longer make it, we’re more than happy for a friend/someone else to attend in your place. Please just drop us an email to let us know their name and email address, so we can include them in all updates about the ride, and send over the health and safety forms.

  • Gymbox has men’s and women’s changing facilities. As a queer-owned business,  we of course know that there are a multitude of gender identities beyond the binary, and so we’d encourage you to use whichever facility feels most affirming for you.

If there is anything we can do to support you moving through the Gymbox space, in all your gender fluidity, please reach out and let us know.

  • The Gymbox bikes are the ‘IC7’ model, from the brand Anytime Fitness. You can find all the bike specifications, including the width, height and the manufacturer’s recommended max user weight HERE.
